Why a rain barrel?

Our rain barrel program helps foster environmental impact by diverting mass amounts of plastic from landfills, by conserving municipal water sources, and by combatting subsidence in New Orleans (the culprit for potholes, cracked streets, sinking foundations), all while giving residents an artistically beautiful and functional reserve of rainwater.

Functional Environmental Art

Each rain barrel is prepared and painted by volunteers. Barrels are made beautiful by the best art students in New Orleans, professional artists, and our most talented volunteers.

Apply for a barrel

To qualify for this program, your residence must be located within the New Orleans levee system, and have gutters and a downspout. If the property is not in your name (i.e. if you are a renter or are providing a benefactor barrel on behalf of a school or other entity) you’ll need at have an authorization form completed by the landlord or superintendent.
